Kerosene
A medium,
light oil, similar to paraffin, in the UK Petroplus Regular Kerosene
or Standard Burning oil is invariably used for domestic oil-fired
heating systems. Kerosene, refined to a very high quality can be
used as jet-fuel where its cold flow at low temperatures and flash
point properties are critical.

Gas
Oil, like diesel is a middle distillate but which because it carries
a significantly lower HMCE duty level is dyed red in the UK to distinguish
it and prevent it for being used as an automotive, on-road diesel.
In addition to its use as an off-road diesel, particularly in the
agricultural industry it is used in industrial heating plant and
processes. The European legislation on Gas Oil sulphur content is
not as rigorous as for EN590 with a maximum permissible level of
2000ppm.

Ultra
Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) is a high specification more environmentally
friendly diesel than the standard European grade known as EN590.
The UK Government has encouraged the manufacture and demand of ULSD
at the expense of EN590 by reducing the HMCE duty payable. Now almost
all diesel sold in the UK is ULSD with a maximum sulphur level of
50 ppm compared to the current EN590 standard of 350 ppm maximum.
As well a low sulphur level, Petroplus ULSD has a high cetane number
giving easier starting, swifter warm-up and reduced white smoke.
Additionally it is low in polyaromatics which aids the reduction
of particulate emissions.
